Today we’re going to talk about how you’re hurting your business by using your company link and not a custom domain.
I know a lot of marketers we get in, we’re excited, we get this long domain/link that might be zloescher.networkmarketingusa.com or something. It’s super long, first of all. It’s called a subdomain. They just give it to you, they can make millions of them. It really has zero value, no value at all. If you want to put it on Google, you’ll never find it. What have to do guys, you have to get your own custom domain. You go out there and spend 2.99 on GoDaddy for a year, get a custom domain, a .com, a .net, or a .org. Those three are what you’re going to find on Google. You won’t find any of the biz, us, that’s all spam, it’s marked as spam, and it’ll show up as spam. Make sure you’re getting a .com, .net, or a .org. Guys, those are the three you want to get.
Next thing is when you’re getting it, one, make sure it’s branded to you. You can see zloescher.com, that’s my brand. It’s not xyzmarketing.com, it’s not werethebesttravelcompany.com. Because that has zero value, again. It’s not branding you. If you type in travel, you’re going to find, probably, hundreds of millions of sights on Google. What is going to make you stand out, is what you got to look at. Zloescher.com is going to be my brand, it is my brand. If you type in zloescher, you’re going to find it. If you type in Zach Loescher, you’re going to find it. It’s branded to me.
Avoid the spam when you’re doing your links. First, make it short, it’s got to be 15 characters, 15 letters or less. If it’s over 15 letters, don’t use that one. If you got to use, because money’s tight, you have to use your long domain, that they give you, make it short. You can use bitly.com. This will shorten it up for you. It’s going to give a really short … Another thing with those long domain names, especially when you guys, don’t do it again, spam on social media, whether it be Facebook, twitter every post has your long zloescher.mybestnetworkmarketingcompany.com on it. The catch is, especially Facebook, flags the domain name and then it blocks it. Not only you can’t post it, nobody in the company can post it. It’s totally defeated the purpose of marketing. Which is great, actually. I actually love that Facebook did it, because it gets rid of the spam marketing links from people, so you’re not getting that spam you always see. You’re still going to get the pictures and stuff but that’s a different story, it’s a different day. Make it 15 characters or less.
The next thing is, to avoid spam, don’t use hyphens, don’t use numbers, like I said don’t use biz, .us, .tv. Those all come up as spam. Spam, .biz, .us, hyphens, and numbers, those are all going to get you guys spam. Make sure you don’t use it.
I see a lot of people because you don’t get the exact name you want, sorry I took zloescher.com can’t have it now, you guys can use other things. I have profitwithzach, I have workwithzach, coachingwithzach, I have residualgenius, residualtrainer. You guys, think of things that fit your niches, all those fit a different niche I have. Yes, you can fitnesswithzach, travelwithzach, skincarewithzach, make it your niche on what you want it to be.
Avoid numbers, avoid the hyphens, make it your brand. What are you going to do to brand you? You don’t want to brand the company. If I’m going to open a McDonald’s, do I want to go out there and promote McDonald’s and waste my money? McDonald’s already runs commercials, right? Make it your brand. People want to get to know, like, and trust you. If they don’t know you, they can’t like you, sorry, they’re not going to trust you.
Eight key points for your link:
One, like I just ended up, it’s your, my writing sucks, sorry, it’s your brand. Make it your brand.
The next one is simple. Can they pronounce it? Don’t make it some crazy, crazy word that nobody can pronounce, nobody knows how to do it. Sorry, there’s a squirrel out the window, he’s being crazy, actually.
Next, three, make it short. You want to make it short as possible because then people can remember it, it’s easy to remember. Zloescher.com, it’s my first initial, last name. So, do that.
Number four, .com is still gold. If you can get whatever it is .com like workwithzach.com, profitwithzach.com, zloescher.com, zachloescher.com, I got that too. If you can get the .com, get it, because your search engines love it. .net, .org, those things are also what they want. So, that’s number four.
Huge one guys and gals, watch out for trademarks. If you’re working for McDonald’s, they’re not going to let you go out and get something named McDonald’s, most likely. Snapchat is actually a good one for us, as networkers. Snapchat is crazy, their legal team is crazy. Anything to do with Snapchat is getting flagged and you’ll get an email from it. I had snapsecrets or snapsecretsexposed, three weeks later I got a legal letter. So, watch out for trademarks. Even though I just used snap, it went to that and boom, done. I just renamed it and we’re still good. Watch out for trademarks and things like that.
Six is keywords. Use a keyword. My keyword, I’m building my brand, that is zachloescher. Make it easy, it’s zachloescher, zloescher.com, workwithzach, profitwithzach. Hold on, I just right here.
Next one is, easy. If they see zloescher.com, they’re probably going to know, if they know me or I’ve talked to them, it’s probably me. Make it easy for them to know. Don’t make it some crazy, off the wall domain name that they have to think about it, and then they don’t put two and two together to think it’s you. So, don’t do that at all.
Then, the last one, it’s pretty easy too, really. It goes kind of off the keywords. able close to. Sorry, my writing sucks. The last one is, if zloescher.com because that’s what you wanted, is not available, get something close to that. So, zachloescher.com, if that’s not available, workwithzach. Make it something close to what your niche is going to be and why you’re out there doing so.
Your domain is so important. Get rid of that crappy, horrible, just worthless link that your company gives you. They’re setting you up for failure by doing that. Yes, it ties the profits to you or ties your sales to you. That’s all it’s good for. They could give you a number, literally, and put the number, like an affiliate number. If you’re an affiliate with me, you get a number assigned to you, that’s what you use, you don’t get a username. They could have done that. But, make sure your domain fits your niche and what you want to do. Don’t go out there and just get the off the wall thing. Like I said, avoid the spam, no hyphens, no numbers, not .biz, or .us, or .tv, or .xxx I know that one’s horrible too, but there are a place and a time, I guess. Get .com if you can, guys.
Hopefully, this has helped you out and if you all want to talk about it, shoot me a message, leave some comments down if this was helpful. Love to talk to you guys, take care.
