oppressionWe see it all over the news and social media these days “I’m being oppressed by XYZ” REALLY? Shut up NO you are NOT!! The only oppression is yourself and no one is making you oppressed!

Just like every other American citizen in this country we all have the same rights as anyone else here. The difference is how we handle the differences we see in life and the actions we do to better ourselves!

Oppression can mean many things to everyone one but the definition is 1) the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, anxiety, etc. or 2) an act or instance of oppressing or subjecting to cruel or unjust impositions or restraints. Originally from Middle English of the 1300-1350.

I saw a quote by an unidentified author “All oppressed people seize whatever weapons they can to fight oppression.” And I agree with it but let’s start with our god given talent that’s between your ears! We all have hidden talents until we find them and release them. Just think of how many successful people I could name here right now, that either came from single parent family, maybe abusive parents, fought addiction, grew up in the hood, grew up poor, school drop out, flunked out, and so forth. But yet that never stopped them from achieving their goals and dreams in life!

Popular Failures in American History:

  •  Walt Disney was fired because he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.
  • Jay-Z tried tirelessly to strike a record deal, not a single label would sign him.
  • Colonel Sanders 1,009 folks told him he was crazy, but he didn’t give up.
  • Oprah Winfrey got fired because she couldn’t sever her emotions from her stories.
  • Thomas Edison’s teachers told him he was “too stupid to learn anything.”
  • Sidney Poitier first auditioned the director angrily tell him to stop wasting his time and go get a job as a dishwasher.
  • Elvis was told by a manager that he was better off returning to Memphis and driving trucks.
  • Marilyn Monroe was told be a modeling agencies told her she should consider becoming a secretary.
  • Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.
  • Henry Ford failed two times before that abruptly resulted in bankruptcies, prior to successfully launching Ford Motor Company.

You see with each of these failures at different times in American history, they all have one thing in common. Not one of them gave up and they never let society determine their life’s outcome. They took life in their hands and determined their own outcomes, which led each one of them to very successful lives.

Those goals and dreams were never met with an excuse that “I’m oppressed, I can’t do that!” We ALL can do anything we want to do if we are willing to put in the time and sacrifice that it requires us to get there! Very few were just handed the silver platter and said here have fun go live life! No, almost all those success people and top income earners worked their asses off while others went out and drank and partied on a Friday, Saturday, or even on a holiday! Success has no weekdays, it’s a 24/7/365 hustle!

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” — Winston Churchill Share on X

You see the only difference between one person claiming oppression and one person reaching their dreams and goals is the action they took to get them to their goals and dreams. And anyone can take those actions to better themselves! But, No one can make that choice for you!
