6 Goal Setting Steps For 2016 And Beyond
Another year has come and is about gone! As we are all preparing for the New Year and most are thinking about setting our goals for the coming year. While we are preparing our goals for our personal life, business, and long-term there are 6 main steps to create your goals.
When setting your goals they need to have an emotional value, they must be limited, and you must be able to refine them. Your goals must make you emotional, something that you are passionate about achieving, and can see yourself being successful!
Your goals must be limited in that you have given it an end date for achieving the given goal. If I go out and just say I want to be “healthier” that really has no factual way to track your success. Saying I want to “lost 50 pounds by September 1st” gives you a goal and a time. Making smaller stepping blocks to achieve the main goal is an excellent way to stay focused and driving towards your bigger goal! Having a goal that has bench mark to hit and giving it a time frame will reinforce your need to stay focused towards your goals.
- Your ability to think, plan and to be able to take action for the achievement of your goals is the leading skill to you success.
- You must always have a deadline set, and that deadline can easily be broken into several milestones or partial steps to allow you focus on reaching your deadline.
- You must have identified the obstacles that may come between you and reaching your goal. What could potentially stop you from achieving your goal(s)?
- What is it going to take for you to reach your goal(s)? You need to identify the skills that you will be required to take you from where you are now to where you want to be. What trainings or events may help you achieve your goal(s)?
- The fifth step is to identify the mentors and leaders that will assist you in achieving your goal(s).
- The final step in successful goal implementation is to take action and go public. Start taking action today on your goals, there is no reason to start tomorrow or next week! And finally, GO PUBLIC let everyone know what your goals are and be held accountable to them!
